What To Expect As A New Patient

Your first visit and beyond

As a new practice member, you can expect to receive the highest quality of Chiropractic care.

Our Goal For All Patients

At Creative Chiropractic our examinations are geared toward detection and correction of the vertebral SUBLUXATION. Subluxations are slight misalignments of the vertebrae in your spine, which can lead to musculoskeletal and neurological inefficiency. You may or may not have symptoms depending on the time, nature, and severity of the subluxation.

Your First Visit

On Day 1 of your first visit you’ll receive a complete chiropractic examination. This visit will take approximately 30 minutes. This includes a brief health history, chiropractic exam, consultation, and 1st visit if warranted.

Our complete neurological diagnostic testing system helps determine how subluxations are affecting your autonomic nervous system, motor nerve system, and your muscular system. It is important to note that this examination helps scientifically understand the subluxation processes going on in your spine by indicating areas of imbalance. It also gives us a baseline for future tests so we can accurately measure your progress to see how your spine is correcting and your nervous system responding.

Most new patients receive their first adjustment on Day 1, unless there is a clinical reason for which we need to delay starting chiropractic care.

Your First Chiropractic Adjustment

All new practice members can expect to receive an adjustment to a maximum of only a few spinal regions, rather than adjusting all parts of the spine on the first visit. The purpose for this is to allow your body to respond to the first adjustment input before we begin more aggressive care. Because your body will be undergoing such a significant response to the first adjustment, it is important not to overwhelm the body with too much input too soon. Once we observe that your body is accepting and processing the adjustments appropriately, we can increase the number of regions adjusted if needed.

First Post-Adjustment Expectations

Don’t be discouraged if you do not notice immediate, long-lasting improvement from your first adjustment. It likely took years for your body to get into the condition that it is in right now, and it will likely take time and repetition of care to ease the effects of years of stress imbalance patterns, on the joints, muscles and nerves of the spine.

Dr. Matt may recommend that you follow a program of care over several months and many adjustments to build momentum and effectively break some longstanding patterns of imbalance. Our goal with this approach to chiropractic care is to create correction, lasting change, and constant neurological improvement rather than just pain or symptom relief. Because of this, customized chiropractic care is for persons of all ages and walks of life who wish to improve their health, regardless of their symptom or condition.

Moving Forward – Future Care Visits

Following this adjustment you will no longer need to make any further appointments to receive care. For your convenience, we offer an “open schedule” practice that allows you to decide what days and times work best for you to receive your care, then encourage you to stick to your own personally set schedule, at the frequency recommended by Dr. Matt.

In some cases the areas we adjust may become temporarily sore after the first treatments. This occurs because of irritation of chronically inflamed joints, muscles, or nerves.

If this happens to you, the symptoms are temporary much like the initial soreness that a person might have after starting a new exercise program. The best way to reduce this soreness is to place an icepack on the painful area for 15-20 minutes (never longer than 20 minutes, do not use heat, repeat icing as needed).

In some cases we have seen immediate emotional changes, as long-standing harmful stress patterns are being addressed for the very first time!

This personalized chiropractic approach actually works with your body’s natural movement and motion to help your body naturally correct the restricted and misaligned segments in your spine and pelvis. Because of this we encourage all new patients to make time to dedicate to regular exercise while they are under care. Simply walking for 15-20 minutes each day and stretching gently for 5 minutes per day can make a huge difference in the results you will see during your care.
